Ivegate Braford Taken in the 1970's

This photo is of Ivegate in Bradford taken in the late 1960's or early 1970's. As you can see from the photo Ivegate is a steep hill, it as a gradient of 1 in 10. It was once said by a national newspaper
at the time that you burn more calories going up such a slope it 5 MPH than it was to do heavy manual work or play a football match. But Bradfordians are a hardy lot and can be seen shopping up and down Ivegate daily.

Also in the photo you can see on your right the Unicorn Pub, and on your left you can see the most popular Butchers Dewhursts, any a Christmas Eve in the past it as not been unusual to see customers queuing down Ivegate just to buy their famous pork pies.

  1. Small correction here if I may, it was Philip Smiths pork butchers that were famous for their stand pies, also anyone remember Bata Shoes?
