Reconstruction of Manchester Road Bradford Early 1970's

This photo is of the widening of Manchester Road in Bradford. The work began in February 1972, and was to turn Manchester Road into a Three-lane dual carriage way, and the whole scheme from Jacobs Well to Odsal Top was due to be finished in 1975. At the same time the sewers that had been there for over a century were to be replaced too. In July of 1972/73 a roundabout replaced the existing traffic lights at the junction Mayo Avenue, Manchester Road and Smiddles Lane.
